JOURNEYS | The Road Home is a non-profit agency that provides shelter, social services, and housing to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in 37 towns in north/northwest suburban Cook County.
The mission of JOURNEYS is to individually assess and serve its clients while broadening community awareness and involvement.

Our Programs
all programs focus on assisting those in need.

Shelter Program
The PADS Shelter Program is created in partnership with area faith communities to provide overnight shelter to those in need. The PADS shelter season runs from October 1st to April 30th each year.
Center Support
The HOPE Center is a day resource center that provides free services to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless.
The HOPE Center is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., except holidays, and is located at 1140 East Northwest Highway in Palatine.

Housing Program
The Interim Housing Program offers similar services to our clients such as safe overnight shelters from the cold weather, warm meals, access to counseling, and programs offered to meet client needs.
Readiness Housing
The program offers hope for someone ready to move out of homelessness, preparing them to become housing-ready while providing referrals
and placement.

Space Alliance
Here at JOURNEYS, each and every one of our employees treats everyone who walks in the door as equals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Interim Housing Launch
After months of hard work, JOURNEYS is thrilled to announce Interim Housing will be opening on a soft-opening basis starting on February 15th.

Status of PADS Sites

The PADS Shelter Program is created in partnership with area faith communities to provide overnight shelter to those in need.

The PADS shelter season runs from
October 1st to April 30th each year.
To gain access to the program, individuals seeking shelter must register and complete intake paperwork with JOURNEYS to be qualified for participation in the program. As part of the intake process, case managers work with the clients to assess their needs and identify which programs they qualify for.
Currently, demand for shelter is greater than supply, as such, JOURNEYS awards slots through a lottery process for those interested in the program.

Coming out of the agency’s strategic plan, JOURNEYS | The Road Home has three main
strategic goals:
-
A Robust Transportation System
-
A Year-Round Shelter System
-
A Comprehensive Affordable Housing Program
