In this video, I show you how to add multiple filters to a collection page on WiX. This is great for property listings, recruitment companies, recipe websites, etc.

Creating a dynamic and user-friendly website is essential for engaging visitors and providing a seamless browsing experience. One effective way to enhance your Wix site is by adding multiple filters to a collection. This allows users to easily navigate and find the content they're interested in without requiring any coding knowledge. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of adding multiple filters to a Wix collection using Wix's built-in tools.

Understanding Wix Collections and Filters

Wix Collections are databases that store structured data on your site, such as product listings, blog posts, or any other kind of content. Filters allow you to display only certain items from a collection based on criteria such as category, price range, or any other relevant attribute.

Benefits of Using Filters

  • Improved User Experience: Users can quickly find what they’re looking for.

  • Increased Engagement: Visitors are more likely to stay on your site if they can easily navigate through content.

  • Enhanced Searchability: Filters make large amounts of content more manageable.

Step-by-Step Guide to Adding Multiple Filters

1. Set Up Your Collection

First, ensure you have a collection set up with the data you want to filter.

  • Go to the Wix Editor: Open your Wix dashboard and enter the Editor.

  • Access Content Manager: Click on “Content Manager” from the side menu.

  • Create a New Collection: If you don’t have a collection yet, click “Add New Collection” and define the fields you need, such as categories, tags, or any other attributes relevant to your content.

2. Add a Dataset to Your Page

A dataset connects the elements on your page to your collection.

  • Add a Dataset: Go to the page where you want to add the filters. Click on the "+" button to add a new element, select “Content Manager,” and then “Dataset.”

  • Connect to Collection: Choose the collection you want to connect the dataset to. This will enable you to display and filter the data on your page.

3. Add Filter Elements

Next, you will add the filter elements such as dropdowns, checkboxes, or sliders.

  • Add a Dropdown Element: Click on the "+" button, select “User Input,” and choose “Dropdown.” Place it on your page.

  • Set Dropdown Options: Click on the dropdown to manage its options. Add the categories or attributes you want users to filter by.

  • Add More Filter Elements: Repeat the process to add other types of filters such as checkboxes, sliders, or additional dropdowns.

4. Connect Filters to Dataset

Now, connect the filter elements to the dataset to enable filtering.

  • Set Up Filter Logic: Click on the dataset on your page, then click on the “Settings” icon. In the settings panel, go to the “Filter” tab.

  • Add Filter Conditions: Click “Add Filter” and set conditions based on the values from your filter elements. For example, if you have a category dropdown, set a condition to filter the dataset by the selected category.

  • Link Filter Elements: For each filter element, use the “Connect to Data” feature to link it to the corresponding field in your collection. This ensures the dataset updates based on user selections.

5. Customize and Style Filters

Ensure your filters are user-friendly and match your site’s design.

  • Customize Filter Appearance: Adjust the look and feel of your filter elements to match your site’s design. This can include changing colors, fonts, and sizes.

  • Add Labels and Instructions: Provide clear labels and, if necessary, instructions for using the filters to improve usability.

6. Test Your Filters

Before publishing, thoroughly test the filters to ensure they work as expected.

  • Preview Your Site: Use the preview mode in the Wix Editor to test the filters.

  • Check Filter Functionality: Make selections in the filter elements and ensure the displayed data updates accordingly.

  • Adjust as Needed: If something isn’t working correctly, revisit the dataset settings and filter connections to make necessary adjustments.

Conclusion

Adding multiple filters to a Wix collection can greatly enhance the usability and functionality of your site, allowing visitors to quickly find the content they’re interested in. By following these steps, you can set up effective filters without needing any coding skills. This not only improves the user experience but also helps keep visitors engaged on your site.
